The Best in Town for a delicious reason : Vij’s

It’s been a tremendously long time since I’ve written anything on here! I’ve been super busy with school and work. I’ve been eating around a lot lately and hopefully I can catch up on blog posting again!

Restaurant: Vij’s
Cuisine: Indian
Price Range: $28-$35 per dish
Total bill of the night (App, 2 Entree + drink): ~$100

I’ve heard so many thing about this restaurant that I was already expecting a wait. The occasion for this dinner was to celebrate my mom’s birthday so I decided to take her to Vij’s. The layout was definitely different from your typical restaurant where you wait outside in the lobby area and wait to be seated. At Vij’s, you enter these doors which opens up to the restaurant dining area, so literally in front of you would be filled with people eating. When you walk in  you have to pass by all those tables where you get a sneak preview of what everyone ordered! (smart strategy! and in case you might not have known, i’m in marketing so I tend to look around a lot and see what ideas restaurants bring in!) After you walk through 5 rows of tables, you reach the “lounge” area where they take your name down on an iPad( technology…) and they bring you a drinks menu! The lighting in the lounge is quite dim and everyone there is holding a drink which does create an atmosphere. We decided to pass on the drink at the lounge (being asian, we’ll drink at the table… ;) they can only get our money once!) We waited at least 40 minutes on a monday night in November but I can say it was worth it!

Once we sat down, we got the menus and asked for recommendation and of course the lamb Popsicle came up! We had to order that! We also ordered the Garam masala sauteed portobello mushrooms in porcini cream curry ($13.50) It was so good! If you don’t really enjoy spicy food, I would pass on it or ask for yogurt. My mom isn’t much of a spicy food eater, and the waitress noticed it and brought over some yogurt for her without requesting it! Vij’s definitely had some great customer service.

Next we ordered two entree, the lamb popsicle (price: not listed online)  and the Beef shortribs braised in yogurt, tomato and cumin curry ($28.50). If you visit Vij’s one day, you HAVE to try the Lamb Popsicle its amazing! The lamb is super tender and it falls right off the bone. The Beef shortribs were just right though it’d be better if the meat was smoother… None the less it was amazing!
